47 women killed in Turkey in February: Women’s rights group

Some 47 women were killed in February in Turkey, marking one of the highest femicide figures in recent months, according to a recent report released by the Kadın Cinayetlerini Durduracağız Platformu (We Will Stop Femicides Platform), a women’s rights organization that monitors violence against women. 

Driver who killed two in Crete granted conditional release

A 20-year-old motorist who killed two pedestrians last Thursday when he hit them with his car near the Technical University of Crete in Hania was granted conditional release on Monday pending trial on a string of charges including manslaughter through negligence, disturbing the peace and driving without a valid license.

173 women killed in Turkey in first five months of 2017: Report

Some 173 women were killed by men in the first five months of 2017, according to a report released by a women's rights activist organization on June 5.

The report from women's rights organization "We Will Stop Femicide" stated that 39 women were killed in May, more than any other month.

The organization also stated that 38 children and 17 women were sexually abused in May.
