Buying these drugs without a prescription has put everyone at risk, experts say, and has become one of the biggest global problems.

A fungal superbug called Candida auris accounted for just 4.4% of all hospital infections in Greece last year, the head of the National Public Health Organization (EODY), Theoklis Zaoutis, said Saturday.

Health Minister Ioana Mihaila said Thursday that Romania's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) has allocated 150 million euros that come to the aid of hospitals to prevent nosocomial infections. Mihaila said that the Ministry of Health is considering measures to improve the under-reporting of infections related to the provision of healthcare.

Ten hospitals in different parts of the country are set to get the green light to kick off what aspires to become a nationwide program for combating hospital-acquired infections (HAI).

A network of 10 public hospitals will be spearheading a new program for improving procedures aimed at preventing hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), comprising teams of experts from different organizations and health facilities.

Because of their frequent use in hospital and outpatient care, Bulgaria sees the highest resistance to this group of medicines. This means that treatment with some patients is ineffective, reports BNT. 

Patients at Greek public hospitals are twice as likely to contract a life-threatening infection compared to their European counterparts because of understaffing and shortages in basic sanitation methods, the union of state hospital workers (POEDIN) warned on Tuesday.
