Digital platform to reduce surgery waiting times
As part of the effort to reduce patients' waiting time for operations in Greece, the National Health Service (ESY) will on February 1 introduce a digital filing system for hospitals' scheduled surgeries and their order of priority.

Hospital spending spirals out of control
The expenditure on 200 expensive hospital drugs supplied by National Health System (ESY) hospitals shot up to 65 million euros in November, while it had been calculated - based on the needs of the previous months of the year - that it would not exceed €28 million euros.

COVID-19 in Bulgaria: 18 New Cases in the Last 24 hours
The new cases of Covid-19 in Bulgaria are 18 in the last day, according to the data of the Unified Information Portal.
221 tests were made during the day, of which they are positively over 8 percent. The active cases are 1788, there are no cured patients for the last 24 hours.
Hospitals try to eliminate use of gurneys as beds
The first time Athens' Evangelismos Hospital was on duty to accept emergency cases in June, it treated 908 people. Doctors decided that 189 needed hospitalization. Almost unheard of for a Greek hospital, none of them had to lie on gurneys - also called "supplementary beds" - in some corridor instead of a room.

Thessaloniki medical clinic evacuated after fire breaks out
Staff and patients - including a woman in labor - had to be evacuated after a fire broke out in a medical clinic in the northern port city of Thessaloniki on Tuesday morning.
The Fire Service responded to the blaze in the city center in force, ordering the immediate evacuation of the facility and closing off surrounding streets to traffic and pedestrians.

The former head of the hospital in Tetovo, Florin Besimi, and the official in charge of the technical side of the hospital, Artan Etemi, were found guilty on Monday of endangering public safety for not acquiring fire extinguishers for the modular COVID-19 hospital ward that was hit by a deadly fire in 2021.

121-year-old historic hospital to be renovated
The 121-year-old historical hospital building in the northern province of Samsun, which has been idle for a while, will be restored to serve as a family and life center.
The city will experience a new transformation with the renovation of the 121-year-old former psychiatric hospital building in İlkadım district and the new family and life center to be built by the municipality.

On-call duty provision revoked after doctors react
Following strong pushback from hospital doctors' representatives, the Health Ministry issued a new circular early Wednesday afternoon revoking the provision governing on-call duty for National Health Service (ESY) hospitals that had been introduced only last Friday.
