North Macedonia PM Rebuffs Calls to Close Modular Hospitals After Fire

Prime Minister Zoran Zaev has rejected calls to temporarily shut all the other modular hospitals in North Macedonia as a precautionary measure, following a deadly fire in Tetovo hospital that killed 14 patients.

Zaev insisted that all 17 remaining modular facilities are working with boosted security and are invaluable in the fight against COVID infections.

Three additional hospitals to admit Covid patients

Novo Mesto/Nova Gorica/Murska Sobota – Due to an increase in Covid hospitalisations, the next phase of Slovenia’s hospital activation plan will be launched on Monday, meaning another three hospitals will start admitting Covid-19 patients, including in Nova Gorica in the west, Novo Mesto in the east and Murska Sobota in the north-east.

Celje/Golnik – The Golnik University Clinic and the Celje General Hospital joined today the country’s largest hospitals, UKC Ljubljana and UKC Maribor, in admitting Covid-19 patients as Slovenia is entering deeper in the fourth wave of the epidemic. The hospital in Celje has already admitted the first three patients, all of whom need respiratory support.

Perhaps we should already take care of younger children. Unfortunately, maybe even the kindergartens should be closed temporarily. The first warning arrived: Batajnica is overcrowded

For days, most new patients are in Belgrade. There are more and more first examinations in COVID dispensaries and those in hospital treatment. An increase in the number of patients is also recorded in the hospital in Batajnica. According to Dr Adzic, there was a record number of admissions yesterday, 60 patients were hospitalized.

"We are very worried about the situation. We had a declining trend, the number of people in hospital treatment decreased, and thanks to that, a part of that system, especially outside Belgrade, slowly started to come out of the COVID system," he said after today's meeting of directors of COVID hospitals with the Minister of Health.
