Trump meets top Saudi prince as Yemen war rages

U.S. President Donald Trump hosted Saudi Arabia's powerful Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the White House on March 14, for talks expected to focus on the economy and rolling back Iranian influence.

Trump welcomed the young prince to the Oval Office, as both countries expect to improve ties that were frequently strained under Barack Obama's administration.

More than 1,500 children dead in two years of Yemen war, says UN

The conflict in Yemen has killed nearly 7,700 people, including at least 1,564 children, since a Saudi-led coalition intervened on the government's side two years ago, U.N. agencies said March 13.

The U.N. children's agency UNICEF said that by March 10, at least 1,546 children were killed and 2,450 others maimed in Yemen.

48,000 displaced by battles around Yemen's Mokha: UN

Fighting around the historic Yemeni port of Mokha has forced more than 48,000 people from their homes, a U.N. official said March 1, with many facing the threat of further displacement.

Shabia Mantoo, Yemen spokeswoman for the U.N.'s refugee agency, told AFP more than 48,000 people had left Mokha and the nearby town of Dhubab in recent weeks.

UN chief: End to Syrian crisis will also end ISIS

In an exclusive interview with Al Arabiya’s sister channel Al-Hadath in Dubai on Monday, the UN Secretary General said a political solution to the Syrian crisis would lead to the end of ISIS.

Antonio Guterres said that the Syrian crisis was the hardest test of the United Nations’ impact on the world and that he sees no end to the refugee crisis in the immediate future.

UN appeals for $2.1 bn for Yemen aid as famine looms

The United Nations appealed Feb. 8 for $2.1 billion to provide desperately needed aid to millions of people in war-ravaged Yemen this year, warning the country could soon face famine.

"Two years of war have devastated Yemen and millions of children, women and men desperately need our help," warned U.N. humanitarian aid chief Stephen O'Brien in a statement, AFP reported.

Houthis released a video showing the distraction of a Al Madinah-class frigate of the Royal Saudi Navy.

This is the second and most important naval success for the Houthis of Yemen after the distraction of the HSV-2 formerly belonged to the United States Navy  and leased to the  United Arab Emirates Navy.

 

At least 40 dead in battle for Yemen port

Fighting for a key port city on Yemen's Red Sea coast has left at least 40 rebel and pro-government fighters dead, military officials said Jan. 24.

Loyalist forces said on Jan. 23 that they had captured the port of Mokha, almost three weeks into an offensive to oust Shiite Houthi insurgents and their allies from Yemen's southwestern coast.
