License plates returned in Thessaloniki due to coronavirus

All license plates that had been removed from vehicles - regardless of infringement - are being returned by the Thessaloniki Municipal Police, due to the complications created by the coronavirus outbreak.

Authorities said the measure is being implemented in order to prevent overcrowding on public transport but also to facilitate any necessary transport movements.

Monthly residential property sales up 51 pct in Feb

Residential property sales in Turkey continue its upward trend, jumping 51.4 percent in February, compared to the same month last year, the country's statistical authority announced on March 16.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) said in a statement that some 118,750 houses changed hands last month, up from almost 96,000 in the month a year earlier.

Asylum seekers apply to ECHR over mistreatment by Greece

Four asylum seekers, injured by Greek security forces along the Turkey-Greece border, applied to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), state-run Anadolu Agency reported on March 16.   

Ali Cengiz Kalkan, the provincial health director of Northwestern Edirne province, told Anadolu Agency that the asylum seekers applied to the ECHR through their lawyers.

Istanbul Modern puts on a collaborative show

For the first time, Istanbul's public is getting a chance to see the fruits of a collaboration between global artists and craftspeople in Istanbul. Launched by Istanbul Modern in October 2018 with the support of the Istanbul Development Agency (ISTKA), the International Artist Residency Program invited 10 artists from around the world to Istanbul to join forces with local craftspeople.

Migrants in Turkey head to EU borders after signal from Ankara

Groups of migrants in Turkey headed toward its borders with Greece and Bulgaria on Friday, Reuters reporters said, after a senior official said Ankara will no longer abide by a 2016 EU deal and stop refugees from reaching Europe.
Late on Thursday, Turkey said 33 Turkish soldiers were killed in an air strike by Syrian government forces in Syria's northwestern Idlib region.
