The European Commission on Tuesday said it stood ready to provide Hungary with emergency EU facilities as Budapest struggles to cope with the record numbers of migrants streaming across its borders.

“We are ready to create a hotspot in Hungary, because this country needs our support,” said Natasha Bertaud, a spokeswoman for the Cmmission.

The latest developments with the migrant crisis on several eastern Aegean islands included continued arrivals at the port of Piraeus of Syrian refugees, people evacuated from the isles by the ferry boat “Eleftherios Venizelos”.

A new wave of migrants began entering the European Union from Serbia on Aug. 24 as the leaders of France and Germany called for a unified response to the continent's biggest migrant crisis since World War II.

Thousands of the around 200,000 Serbian citizens who sought asylum in Germany potentially face demands to leave the country and return to Serbia, the Belgrade-based daily Politika reported on Friday.

About 24,000 were already urged to leave Germany this year.

Three migrants, including two children, have drowned while attempting to reach Greece in two separate incidents off Turkey?s Aegean coast, while one person is still missing.

An increasing number of Serbian citizens have been seeking asylum in Germany - about 90 percent of them Roma - the Belgrade-based daily Politika writes.

24,000 of these asylum seekers have already been asked to leave Germany, the report adds.

More and more migrants keep arriving in Bulgaria despite a host of measures the country has taken to stem the influx, Reuters reported on Wednesday.

The agency cites official data according to which 25 000 people have applied for refugee status over the past two years, or as many as in the previous two decades combined.

With the UN calculating that 50,000 migrants — legitimate refugees and illegal immigrants — entering Greece in July 2015 alone, compared with 47,000 in all of 2014, smugglers are finding new and lucrative ways of trafficking people into the crisis-plagued country — presumably a first stop until more affluent “pastures” of northern Europe are reached.

According to a recent op ed in the New York Times the immigration crisis in Greece is becoming a ‘full scale disaster’. Thousands of third world national are flooding a country trying to recover from a 6-year recession and in constant fear and uncertainty of a default. A country in such a dire economic state that it can barely provide for its own citizens.
