Eurostat: Bulgaria among the Countries with Highest Risk of Poverty or Social Exclusion

In 2018, non-European Union citizens were at a higher risk of poverty or social exclusion than foreign European Union (EU) citizens or national citizens. Across the whole of the EU, 45% of non-EU citizens were assessed to be at risk of poverty or social exclusion compared with 29% of foreign EU citizens and 21% for nationals.

Greek military releases videos showing border surveillance exercises

The Hellenic National Defense General Staff (GEETHA) on Wednesday released a series of videos showing surveillance exercises in border areas. 

The videos show exercises aimed at turning back undocumented migrants trying to enter Greece, including footage recorded during the night, and exercises on shooting ranges. 

Nineteen groups appeal to PM to protect unaccompanied child migrants

Nineteen organizations have signed an open letter addressed to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis calling for the protection of unaccompanied child migrants.
The letter highlighted that these children "are lacking in adequate hospitality structures, but also in a holistic system for child protection."

Turkish coastguard rescues 10 irregular migrants

The Turkish coastguard rescued 10 irregular migrants early on Feb. 22, who were illegally attempting to cross to Europe through the Aegean Sea.

State-run Anadolu Agency reported on Feb. 22 that a boat belonging to the coast guard were dispatched to Aegean province of İzmir's Dikili district, where they were seen to be stranded on rocks.

SEV proposes measures to reverse brain drain

Nearly half a million Greeks left the country in the decade from 2008 to 2017, seeking a better luck abroad, mainly in Germany and the United Kingdom, according to the latest available data. The Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV) is proposing a series of measures not only to stem the outpour of young, skilled Greeks, known a "brain drain", but also to reverse it.
