Budapest attack on SVM leader condemned

BELGRADE, BUDAPEST -- European Parliament Rapporteur for Serbia Zdenko Kacin strongly condemned the attack in Budapest, Hungary, against an ethnic Hungarian politician from Serbia.

SUBOTICA - Leader of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM) Istvan Pasztor stated that in the elections in Hungary, citizens holding dual citizenship from Vojvodina voted similarly as the citizens of Hungary.

BELGRADE - Serbia's First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic congratulated Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on the landslide victory the Fidesz party achieved in Hungary's parliamentary elections on Sunday, Vucic's office said in a release on Monday.

PM Orban's party wins in Hungarian elections

BUDAPEST -- Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has declared victory of his Fidesz party in parliamentary elections held on Sunday.

Orban said that the voting results showed that Hungary was "the most united nation in Europe."

Prime Minister Viktor Orban has claimed victory in Hungary's parliamentary elections Sunday.

The center-right Fidesz party of Orban took 45% of the vote, with most of the ballots counted, the BBC reports.

Ruling center-right party Fidesz is set to win Hungary's parliamentary elections, with 48% of the vote according to exit polls.

Center-left opposition is reported to have received 27% support, as Der Spiegel has informed. Jobbik, the far-right party which some forecasts placed second, got 18%.

Official results were expected "Sunday night".

BELGRADE - Hungarian Ambassador to Serbia Oszkar Nikowitz said on Wednesday that he expects that the envisaged infrastructure projects, such as high-speed rail lines between Belgrade and Budapest, and Szeged and Subotica, and the launch of an Air Serbia flight from Belgrade to Budapest, will contribute to the overall economic cooperation between Hungary and Serbia.

Hungary opposed to sanctions against Russia

BUDAPEST -- Hungary opposes a new series of economic sanctions that the EU would impose on Russia because of its intervention in Ukraine, said Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

Members of the Hungarian government on Saturday voiced support for territorial autonomy for ethnic Hungarians in Romania, a day after Bucharest unexpectedly imposed an unprecedented entry ban on several Hungarian nationals accused of being extremists.
