Bulgaria Witnesses Surge in New Car Sales, Outpacing European Trends
Bulgaria experienced a substantial surge in new car sales during February, marking a significant increase of nearly 60% compared to the same period last year.
Share of new electric cars doubles, still lags the EU
Newly bought electric vehicles doubled their share in Greece in the first half of 2023 but are still lagging behind EU purchases, suggesting that the incentives provided by the government may not be enough.
In Greece, 4.60% of newly purchased cars were battery-rechargeable, compared to 12.90% in the EU.
New car sales up nearly 14%
New car sales in July rose 13.9% compared to July 2022. Since the start of the year, they have risen 26% compared to January-July 2022.
Part of it is due to delayed orders because of earlier disruptions in global supply chains.
Electric and hybrid cars are catching on, with rechargeable models making up 10.1% of July sales, from 5.4% in July 2022.

China orders recall of 1.1 million Teslas
Chinese safety regulators have ordered Tesla to recall 1.1 million vehicles because drivers might step on the accelerator for too long, increasing the risk of a crash.
The State Administration for Market Regulation said in a notice that the recall involves imported Model S, X and 3 models as well as the Chinese-made Models Y and 3.

Electric car sales set a new market share record in the European Union in 2022, industry figures showed yesterday, as the region seeks to rid itself of fossil fuel cars.
Battery-powered electric cars accounted for 12.1 percent of new car sales, compared to 9.1 percent in 2021 and 1.9 percent in 2019, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA).

Electric car sales may reach 4,500 units this year
If the sales maintain their current pace in the coming months, electric vehicle sales may reach around 4,500 units, according to a business group.
In the first six months of 2022, the number of registered electric vehicles increased by 170 percent from a year ago to 2,413, according to a recent report by the Electric and Hybrid Vehicles Association (TEHAD).
