Lucrative car theft racket busted in Athens

Six suspected members of a lucrative luxury car racket - six Greeks and two foreign nationals - faced an Athens prosecutor on Friday on multiple criminal charges.

Over the past year-and-a-half, the racket is alleged to have stolen dozens of luxury cars before fitting them with fake license plates and selling them on or selling their parts, according to police.

Bogus pilgrim makes off with church silver in Halkidiki

Police on Friday arrested a man for stealing around 1,000 euros, 11 silver incense burners and two silver cups from a church in Halkidiki in northern Greece. He had hidden the loot in a nearby forest.

According to police he pulled off the robbery by posing as a pilgrim, so that his movements in the church would go unnoticed.

Cocaine found inside stolen car in southern Athens

Officers of police's DIAS motorcycle-riding unit found two kilos and 210 grams of cocaine inside a vehicle parked in Athens' southern district of Glyfada on Friday.

The drugs were divided in four packages, police said.

The car had been reported stolen and had no license plates.

The investigation has been handed over to the Attica Security's Anti-Drugs Squad. 

Athens woman injured in possible acid attack

A 34-year-old woman in Athens suffered severe burns to her face when a woman sneaked up on her as she was heading to work in the district of Kallithea on Wednesday morning and splashed her with a caustic substance, police sources cited by state-run news agency ANA-MPA said Monday.

The suspect, who was wearing a face mask, fled after the attack.
