Rain on Greenland ice sheet signals climate change risk

Rain fell at the highest point on Greenland's ice sheet - possibly for the first time - in an event Danish scientists on  Aug. 23 said was most likely driven by climate change.

The rain was observed for several hours on August 14 at a measuring post more than 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) up on the sheet, the U.S. Snow and Ice Data Center reported.

Global Ice Sheet Melting Much Faster Than in 1990

The rate at which ice is disappearing across the world matches "worst-case climate warming scenarios", UK scientists have warned in new research.

A team from the universities of Edinburgh and Leeds and University College London said the rate at which ice is melting across the world's polar regions and mountains has increased markedly in the last three decades.

The Argentinean Base of Esperanza, Antarctica, Recorded the Hottest Day in 59 Years

The Argentinean base of Esperanza, Antarctica, recorded the hottest day since temperature statistics began, the National Weather Service said.

Yesterday, at the Esperanza Research Station, temperatures rose to 18.3 degrees Celsius at noon.

The previous record was 17.5 degrees, measured on March 24, 2015.

Experts Say the Ocean Level May Rise 2m by the End of the Century

They have made their predictions, based on the melting of ice sheets of Greenland and Antarctica, reported NOVA TV.

Twenty-two experts published forecasts in the Proceedings of the American Academy of Sciences, according to which the level of the oceans could rise by two meters by the end of the century, the French press and the BTA reported.
