"Illicit trade in forged US and Bulgarian ID documents has been intercepted," Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev wrote on Twitter.

The operation was carried out by the Prosecutor's Office and the GDBOP (organized crime task force) and targeted crimes in cyberspace.

The Prosecutor General also noted that "fighting cybercrime is a challenge that we successfully tackle."

European and Greek law enforcement authorities have dismantled a gang dealing in forged identification documents, in a large-scale operation codenamed Taurus.

European Union police agency Europol says it has helped break up a criminal network that had been working for 10 years to smuggle migrants into Europe and provide them with false identification documents.

A 35-year old Iraqi man was arrested by Greek police on the island of Lesvos for allegedly possessing four fake Italian IDs. The Mytilene police detained the man, who was also found to be carrying 800 Euros, in the capital of the island in broad daylight and have launched an investigation to detect the source that provided the suspect with the false IDs.

Bulgarian police have detained six people dealing in production and sale of fake identity documents, the Ministry of the Interior said on Monday.

Macedonia's new opposition interim Interior Minister, Oliver Spasovski, said the police organized crime department was investigating allegations that at least 30,000 fake IDs had been produced in time for next year's early elections.

They were allegedly produced at two secret locations, in the town of Stip and in the Skopje suburb of Shuto Orizari.
