EastMed market test by end-2023

The market test for the EastMed pipeline - the project to transport natural gas from East Mediterranean gas fields to Italy and Central Europe through Greece - is expected to take place by the end of 2023, officials of owner IGI Poseidon told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency.

IGI Poseidon belongs in equal shares (50%-50%) to Greece's DEPA International Projects and Italy's Edison.

IGI Poseidon signs MoU on Israeli gas pipeline

Israel Natural Gas Lines (INGL) is looking at building a natural gas pipeline to Europe under a memorandum of understanding signed with IGI Poseidon, it said on Tuesday.
The mooted EastMed pipeline could carry about 10 billion cubic meters of gas a year from the Eastern Mediterranean to Cyprus, Greece, Italy and other European markets.

EU Clears State Aid Greece and Bulgaria Natural Gas Interconnector

The EU's competition regulators have approved a plan by Greece and Bulgaria to build and operate a natural gas interconnector with public funds, reports Energy Live News. 

They said the €240 million (£209m) project will boost the region's goal of diversifying its energy supplies by carrying three billion cubic meters of natural gas from Greece to Bulgaria each year by 2021.

DEPA eyeing stake in Alexandroupoli LNG terminal

Public Gas Corporation (DEPA) is weighing the idea of acquiring a 20 percent stake in the project of the planned liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal off Alexandroupoli, in northern Greece, after the project received a fresh boost from the completion of the entry of GasLog (which belongs to shipowner Peter Livanos) with another 20 percent stake.

The EastMed is a commercially viable pipeline according to EDISON

In a presentation that took place in Brussels last Monday, EDISON explained why the Eastern Mediterranean Pipeline (EastMed) is an economically and commercially viable project. The company presented a series of relevant data to the Energy General Secretariat of the EU and the Chief Executives of the involved countries Greece, Israel, Cyprus and Italy.

Energy to top the agenda during Russian president's Athens visit

Russian President Vladimir Putin is arriving in Greece on May 28, with the main subject topping his agenda being the promotion of a new conduit for the transmission of Russian natural gas via Bulgaria and Greece, including the utilization of the plan for the Interconnector Greece-Italy (IGI) pipeline.
