Athens metro heading out to western suburbs
The Infrastructure Ministry has announced the tender for a 4-kilometer extension of Line 2 of the Athens metro from Anthoupoli westward to Ilion with three new stations: Palatiani (at the junction of Thivon Avenue and Kappadokia Street), Ilion (Thivon & Eleon) and Agios Nikolaos (Agios Nikolaos & Paramythia).

Athens Metro: The map of the new extension to Ilion
Ten years after the delivery of the last major extension of Line 2 of the Athens metro, which today connects Anthoupolis with Ellinikon, a new esxtension is on the way. Attiko Metro yesterday turned the hourglass of the tender for the extension to Ilion with approximately 4 km of new line and three new stations.

Police in Athens said on Friday that they have identified the perpetrators behind the vandalism of a supermarket in the southern coastal suburb of Alimos last Saturday.

Fire breaks out in Athens orphanage
Fire fighters on Monday put out a blaze that started at an orphanage in the suburb of Ilion, west Athens, early in the morning, state-run news agency ANA-MPA reported.
The blaze started for a yet unknown reason at the second floor of the building located on Agia Triados Street shortly after 2 a.m., the fire service said.

Supermarket chain stores damaged in coordinated attacks around Attica
A group of unidentified individuals launched a coordinated attack against 13 stores of a supermarket chain in the region of Attica early Thursday morning, state-run news agency ANA-MPA reported.
Ruling party 'will not be terrorized' by gas canister bomb 'bullies'
Ruling SYRIZA on Monday said that it will not be "terrorized" after unknown assailants planted a gas canister bomb at its branch office in Ilion, northern Athens.
The ground-floor office was badly damaged, as the assailants broke the front window and placed a cluster of gas canisters in the building's interior before setting off the charge in the early hours of Monday.

Scandinavian trio The Thing, hailed as one of the pioneers of the European avant jazz scene since emerging in the early 2000s, will be performing at Athens's Ilion Plus venue on Sunday, November 26. Doors open at 9 p.m. and admission costs 30 euros. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Underflow record store (39 Kallirois).

Sudden hailstorm hits Athens (photos-video)
A sudden hail storm is causing problems in the centre of Athens. A new wave of extreme weather was forecast by meteorologists, who predicted Friday would see heavy rainfalls and storms from midday onwards in the capital.

Wine Festival | Athens | September 15 & 16
The Ilion Association of Cretans will host its annual wine festival, which as is customary will include lots of food, music and dancing to accompany the celebration of one of the island's finest products. The festival starts on Friday at 9 p.m. and will continue on Saturday night as well. Traditional Cretan music will be performed by the Nikos Zoidakis band.
