Illegal taxicab operation

The number of taxis in Istanbul will be increased for the first time after many years, because they are not enough for the city's large population, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has said in an interview with private broadcaster Fox TV.

Uber announced on Jan. 11 it will cease operations in Colombia beginning Feb. 1.

The decision comes after the Colombian Superintendence of Industry and Trade ordered the platform last month to stop engaging in unfair competition practices.

Hundreds of pirate taxi stations have mushroomed across Istanbul, especially after Uber was banned, the chamber of taxi merchants has said.

A three-member panel of the Supreme Administrative Court upheld the decision of the Commission for the Protection of Competition (CPC), which banned Uber's business in Bulgaria and a fine of 200,000 levs was imposed on the two companies Uber B.V and Rasier Opportunities B.V.

U.S. ride-hailing app Uber told Europe's top court on April 24 that it was a digital service, not a transport service, and that a French law clearly targeted online taxi services, in its latest European legal battle with the taxi industry.

Thousands of Indonesian taxi drivers staged a violent protest March 22 against Uber and other ride-hailing services, blocking major roads in the capital, clashing with drivers from app-based rivals and setting tires alight.

A new innovative approach will be implemented at Sofia International Airport in order to fight illegal taxi services. Apparently the measures have been imposed so as to fight the negative effects that illegal taxi services have had on the legally registered companies.
