Dozens drown in deadliest migrant shipwreck off Greece this year

At least 32 migrants drowned early on Wednesday when their boat capsized and sank off Greece, the country's coast guard said.

One hundred people were rescued, but it remained unclear how many were on board when the vessel went under, authorities said. The shipwreck was the deadliest off Greece this year.

Skyros: 27 migrants found on county road

At least 27 migrants and refugees were located on a country road on the island of Skyros on Wednesday while a sailing boat and an auxiliary boat used for their transport were found in a nearby bay.

According to the Coast Guard, the migrants were seven women, three male minors and 17 men.

The sailing boat was confiscated and towed to the port of Linaria.

Greece pushes back more than 41,000 migrants since 2020: Report

Greece has pushed back a total of 41,523 irregular migrants to Turkish waters between 2020 and May 31, 2022, according to a report by Turkey's Ombudsman Institution (KDK).

The report also said that 53 irregular migrants in 2021 and 33 others in 2022 lost their lives - either drowned or froze to death - due to pushbacks.

Turkish Coast Guard saves 77 migrants pushed back by Greece

Turkish Coast Guard teams have rescued 77 irregular migrants pushed back by Greek authorities in two separate operations conducted off the western province of İzmir's Dikili district on June 8.

The first team patrolled the Dikili coasts upon notifications that some migrants on a dinghy were floating on the sea.
