Suspended sentence for self-proclaimed ‘national prosecutor’ in Thessaloniki

A 59-year-old man impersonating judicial and military authorities was handed 10 months suspended jail sentence in Thessaloniki on Thursday.

The man presented himself on social media as "national prosecutor" and a career military man with hunting rifles at his possession which he would use to hurt people.

Merkel: It's problematic

According to Merkel, freedom of speech and opinion are the most important human rights.
"This right can be limited, but only in accordance with the law and within the framework defined by the legislators, and not by the decisions of the management of social networks", Merkel concluded.

Prosecutor seeks partial acquittal of Kalavryta bishop over homophobic rant

The deputy prosecutor in a Supreme Court appeal by the controversial bishop of Kalavryta, Amvrosios, of his conviction for inciting hate and abusing his position with a homophobic rant in 2015 has recommended that the senior cleric be acquitted of the latter crime.

Bishop found guilty of incitement to hatred for homophobic rant

Greek Bishop Amvrosios of Kalavryta was found guilty of incitement to hatred and abuse of ecclesiastical office by a three-member misdemeanor court in the Peloponnesian town of Aigio Monday, for advising followers to "spit" on gay people.

Amvrosios was handed a seven-month suspended jail sentence. The court's prosecutor had earlier proposed his acquittal.

Man to face charges of attempted violence against politicians over threatening messages

Α 62-year-old man who was arrested late Monday night for allegedly sending threatening messages to lawmakers who have said they will support the Prespes deal will appear before a prosecutor on Tuesday to face charges of attempted violence against a political body, the government or its members and incitement to commit a crime.
