A downturn in Greek manufacturing slowed in December as declines in output and new orders eased, but companies cut jobs for the first time in seven months as backlogs of work shrank, a survey showed on Monday.

Confidence in Turkey's economy weakened among consumers  and businesses in December, according to Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) on Dec. 29.

The Economic Confidence Index decreased by 18.5 percent in December (TÜİK) said in a statement.

Turkey's consumer confidence index fell in December from the previous month, according to a Turkish Statistical Institute report released on Dec. 21.

The index slipped from 68.93 points in November to 63.38 points in December, down 5.55 points or 8 percent, the report said.     

The Purchasing Managers' Index for the Greek manufacturing sector dropped to its lowest in 12 months in November, reflecting the major contraction in both output and new orders for the domestic and international markets.

The Greek PMI index, as measured by IHS Markit, stood at 48.3 points last month, against 48.6 in October.

The economic climate in Greece has deteriorated in November after 3 consecutive months of positive data, according to the Foundation for Economic & Industrial Research (IOBE) index.

The consumer confidence index declined to 68.9 in November, a 6.9 percent decrease compared to the previous month, data from the Turkish Statistics Institute showed on Nov. 22. 

Manufacturing sector jobs are unsafe as despite their increase in October, the indications according to the size of orders, cost of inflows and price of outflows are not encouraging at all.

This is evident in Greece's Purchasing Managers Index (PMI), which in October recorded a five-month low of 48.6 points against 49.2 points in September, according to Markit researchers.

Turkey's Purchasing Manufacturing Index (PMI) saw a near-stabilization of business conditions in the Turkish manufacturing sector in October as a result of contributions from exports, as well as an increase in new orders and output. 

Activity in Greece's manufacturing sector contracted again in October with the key indicator hitting a five-month low as production and new orders declined, a survey showed on Tuesday.
