Heavy rainfalls hit Jakarta, 19 killed in Indonesia
At least 19 were killed in Indonesia's capital and nearby towns when heavy rains caused flash floods, the authorities said on Jan. 2.
"It has been confirmed that 19 people died, two others are still waiting to be confirmed," Social Affairs Minister Juliari Peter Batubara said.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo said that the location of the country's new capital is already chosen, Reuters reported.
It is an area between the regions of Kutai Kartanegara and North Penajam Paser, near the port city of Balikpapan, a two-hour flight from Jakarta, Mr Widodo said.
Indonesia's President Suggests New Capital
The new capital will be operational from 2024, reported NOVA TV.
The capital of Indonesia will no longer be Jakarta, according to BGNES. Indonesian authorities will begin the capital move in 2021, Xinhua news agency quoted Indonesian Planning Development Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro.

6 People Died and 200 Others Were Injured as a Result of the Protests in Indonesia
Dozens of protesters were arrested in Indonesia after mass protests against the re-election of President Joko Widodo, the BBC reported.
Yesterday evening, the protests in the capital, Jakarta, began peacefully, but soon became furious, cars were set on fire, and protesters threw rocks at police using tear gas, rubber bullets and water cannons.
Hong Kong woman jailed for six years for maid abuse
A Hong Kong woman was jailed for six years on Feb. 27 for beating and starving her Indonesian maid and keeping her prisoner, as the judge called for action over laws which leave domestic workers exposed to abuse.
But while victim Erwiana Sulistyaningsih said she was happy and "appreciated" the judgement, she felt that six years was not long enough.
