The prices of baby formula in Greece are significantly higher compared to other European countries, based on a price comparison survey carried out by the country's Hellenic Competition Commission in November.

The U.S. Justice Department is investigating the Abbott Laboratories infant formula plant in Michigan that was shut down for months last year due to contamination, the company confirmed.

Production resumed Saturday at an Abbott Nutrition baby formula plant in the US whose closure helped fuel a crippling nationwide shortage.

The facility in Sturges, Michigan has met initial government sanitary requirements for reopening, the company said in a statement.

Greek women are increasingly choosing to breastfeed their newborn babies after years of relying on formula, according to a report conducted by the Children's Health Institute in 2017.

Based on the data, seven in 10 women last year breastfed their infants for the first few months, reversing a four-to-10 ratio recorded in a similar report in 2007. 

Thousands of mothers from all over Athens gathered at Syntagma Square on Sunday, November 5 to send a positive message about breastfeeding. Their goal was to raise awareness and encourage mothers to prefer the natural way of feeding their children and avoid formulas.

A Slovenian artist breastfed her dogs and fertilized one of her eggs with a dog cell as part of an award-winning three-month art project. She also produced a video documenting the creative process behind the bizarre venture.

Maja Smrekar lived in seclusion with her dogs as part of the lengthy artistic experiment, which was titled “K-9_topology.”

Excavations in one of the most important coastal towns of the Hellenistic era, the ancient city of Parion in the northwestern Turkish province of Çanakkale's Biga district, have unearthed a 2,000-year-old feeding bottle. 

In a bid to boost the practice of breastfeeding, the Health Ministry is introducing a measure whereby new mothers will have to sign a release form allowing their infants to be bottle-fed at maternity clinics.
