Fire at Romanian Hospital Kills Seven Patients

Seven patients have died after a blaze broke out on Friday morning at the Infectious Diseases Hospital in south-eastern Romania.

"All the victims were in their beds. Only patients died, not medical staff," said Colonel Mihail-Cristian Amarandei, head of the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations in Dobrogea, which was called in to help deal with the blaze.

"The influx of patients, especially the severe ones, is huge. Is the number falling a little bit? One day it is a little smaller, one a little bigger, but the number is still too big," Stevanovi said.

As Radio Television of Serbia reported, infectologist Mijomir Pelemis, former director of the Infectious Diseases Clinic of the Clinical Center of Serbia and a current member of the government's Crisis Staff for Combating COVID-19 epidemic, was awarded the Order of Karadjordje's Star of the First Degree.

No decision yet on opening of schools, minister says

Education Minister Niki Kerameus said on Monday that there is no decision at the moment for the reopening of schools, but hinted at the weekend that primary schools would be first in line.

"We are waiting for the suggestions of the infectious disease specialists and the decisions will be announced by the prime minister," she said.
