UN report: Pandemic turning into a 'child-rights crisis'
Children have so far largely escaped the most severe symptoms of COVID-19 but the social and economic impact "is potentially catastrophic for millions of children," according to a U.N. report launched on April 16.
It said COVID-19 is turning into "a broader child-rights crisis."
Latest on the coronavirus: Global cases pass 2.1 million
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases worldwide passed 2.15 million on April 17 as the pandemic swept across the globe.
Johns Hopkins University's website showed over 145,000 people have died from the virus.
The total number of people recovered from COVID-19 reached passed 548,000 according to the data.

Greece has performed better than any other country in Europe in its response to the coronavirus pandemic by taking early containment measures, a report published on Thursday by French think-tank The Bridge has found.
Global coronavirus death toll crosses 130,000 mark
The global death toll from the novel coronavirus crossed the 130,000 mark on April 16, according to Johns Hopkins University.
Data compiled by the U.S. university showed the global number of deaths reached 130,528, while the total number of people who recovered was over a half million.

India's Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic
India, a country of 1.3 billion, has been able to limit the number of deaths to less than 200 in the 10 weeks since the first COVID-19 case was detected. Reported cases in India are much lower than the global incidence rate. The pandemic has also been contained geographically with negligible "community" transmission.
