Extra state funding for buses and coaches
An extra budget of 18.3 million euros for Greece's urban buses and intercity coaches (KTEL) was announced by Transport and Infrastructure Minister Christos Staikouras on Friday.
This sizable subsidy also concerns local coach operators in the country's remote regions, he added, speaking at the 29th KTEL annual convention in the city of Lamia, central Greece.

Construction of new central intercity bus station at Eleonas given green light
The Environment and Energy Ministry has given the green light for the construction of a new central station for intercity buses in the Eleonas district of Athens. The project received approval after the environmental terms were approved.
OTOKAR to provide 90 buses to Czech Republic
Türkiye's leading bus brand Otokar has signed an agreement with Dopravni Spolecnost Usteckeho Kraje, the transport company of the Usti region of the Czech Republic, for the supply of 90 intercity buses.

Authorities tighten measures against possible bus crashes
Turkish authorities have tightened measures on intercity buses carrying passengers after a string of deadly accidents in which nearly 30 people were killed and dozens injured in the country's three western provinces just last week.

At least six people were killed and 42 others were injured when an intercity bus and a truck collided in western Turkey on Aug. 6.

Over 20 injured in 24-vehicle pileup in İzmit
A multiple-vehicle collision involving as many as 24 vehicles on a busy highway in the northwestern province of İzmit near Istanbul left at least 21 people injured on May 31.
The accident occurred at around 5 a.m. when a truck driver heading toward Istanbul lost control of his vehicle, which rolled over on the Anadolu highway.

Flixbus’s Ljubljana-Belgrade line back after more than a year
Ljubljana – The bus operator Flixbus is relaunching its bus route from Slovenia to Serbia after more than a year of inactivity. Starting on May 20, its coaches will be taking passengers on the Ljubljana-Belgrade route four times a week, while adhering to the epidemiologic measures.

The number of intercity bus passengers declined as much as 60 percent in 2020 compared with the previous year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and virus-related restrictions, according to a business group.

Passenger capacity in public transport increased to 65 pct
The maximum passenger capacity on all public transport in Greece as well as intercity buses (KTEL) is increased to 65 percent from the current 50 percent, according to a joint ministerial decision issued on Tuesday.
The decision will remain in place until June 14.
