"We are 149 years away from the self-sacrifice of the Apostle of Freedom. To the man who gave his life to win over an entire nation." This is what the head of state wrote on the occasion of the anniversary of the Apostle's death and added:

On 19th February, Bulgaria honours the memory of the national hero, Vasil Levski (Vasil Ivanov Kounchev).

Although today Bulgaria marks 148 years since the day he was hung, in the minds of Bulgarian people he remains as immortal.

June 9 is International Archives Day. The documents stored in archival institutions are of interest not only to historians, but are essential for our entire society. That is why it is not a coincidence that today we have chosen to share with you the news about the publication of a new collection of documents about the life and work of Vasil Levski.

Bulgarians gathered in front of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church of Saint Dimiter in the city of Brampton, Ontario, on Sunday to celebrate the unveiling of a monument to Bulgaria's most beloved national hero Vasil Levski, the first erected in Canada.

Bulgaria is marking 144 years since Vasil Levski, the most respected national hero and freedom fighter, was hanged.

Levski was a historic figure of tremendous importance for the freedom movement in Bulgaria in the late 19th century, while the country was still a part of the Ottoman Empire.

The Parliament and Presidency building in Bulgaria's capital Sofia will be open to the public between 10:00 and 16:00 local time on Saturday.

Bulgaria is marking on Friday the 143rdanniversary of the hanging of its national hero Vasil Levski.

Levski will be commemorated with numerous events in his hometown Karlovo, the capital Sofia and across the country.
