The large turnout at a Tuesday evening event that sought to answer the question: "Who can stand up to Mitsotakis' dominance?" reflects the eagerness of center-left voters to identify a figure that can inspire them.

Greece's main opposition party SYRIZA said it will vote in favor of a government bill allowing same-sex couples to marry, noting however that the legislation is "incomplete". 

The Parliament will vote on the same-sex marriage bill on Thursday night, with ruling New Democracy, main opposition SYRIZA and PASOK, Course of Freedom and New Left having stated that they will back it.

A last-minute amendment tabled by the Conservative government to extend postal voting rights to expatriates in national elections was rejected by the entire opposition.

SYRIZA leader Stefanos Kasselakis has refuted a report alleging that he requested the removal of posters featuring Alexis Tsipras, a former prime minister and his predecessor as the head of the party, from the walls of the main opposition headquarters in Koumoundourou Square.

Six months after the national elections and another six months before the European Parliament elections, the ruling New Democracy (ND) party continues to dominate the precious political center, but with some scars.

A poll conducted by Prorata on the voters occupying the political center and their preferences in Greece showed that in the June elections some 58% of them voted for ND.

The credibility of the Parliament inquiry committee set up to investigate the Tempe train collision in central Greece last February, which cost the lives of 57 people, is being eroded by the acrimonious exchanges between the government and the opposition, even before key witnesses are examined.

SYRIZA leader Stefanos Kasselakis is considering two initiatives aimed at strengthening his control over the main opposition party and bringing it more in line with the political center.

In response to the recent government reshuffle, opposition parties in Greece launched criticism against the administration. Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis announced the changes on Wednesday afternoon.
