Sofia Mayor: There is Still Much to be Done About the Safety of Children on the Internet
,,There is still much to be done about the safety of children on the Internet.'' This is what the mayor of Sofia Yordanka Fandakova said during the international conference "Building a cyber-resistant society, what can we do more about the safety of children and young people on the Internet?".
The event was organized by the Sofia Security Forum.
Bulgaria and Slovenia are the Last in Online Trade in the EU
In 2017, one out of five businesses across the EU sells via computer networks such as the Internet or other forms of electronic data interchange. These e-sales amount to 17% of the total turnover. Within the framework of electronic sales, 7% of the total turnover comes from Internet sales, Eurostat writes.
Study points to online dangers, complacency
Almost half (43 percent) of parents in Greece do not limit their children's internet use, according to the results of a study conducted by the Greek Safer Internet Center in November and December last year.
The survey was carried out on a sample of 14,000 children aged between 10 and 17 from 400 schools in Athens, Thessaloniki, Crete, Patra and Larissa.

Bulgaria at the Bottom of EU Internet Usage Ranking
The Bulgarians are among the EU citizens who use the options of Internet the least, data of Eurostat shows, quoted by BNR.
Bulgaria ranks last in the EU in terms of Internet use. In 2018 only 65% of the Bulgarian citizens used Internet on a regular basis, whereas 85% of the EU citizens used Internet on a daily basis on average.

The share of Internet users aged between 16 and 74 went up in 2018 by 5.3 percentage points, compared to the previous year, their number reaching 11.7 million persons, according to a conjecture survey carried out by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
