As Greece draws closer to having its bailout support extended, the bourse enjoyed a fourth consecutive day of gains on Wednesday, with the benchmark climbing back over the 1,000-point mark to its highest point since October 9.

The local market’s seven-month slide came to an end in November, with the month providing a 5.17 percent boost to the benchmark, which looks more like a correction considering the previous period of losses. The growth trend was confirmed on Friday as traders gave a final push to the main index, although many observers argue that was little more than window dressing.

Efforts to maintain the 1,000-point level of the Greek stock exchange’s benchmark paid off for a second day in a row on Monday, though the focus on this defensives approach illustrates the extent to which the market has run out of steam.

The OPAP gaming company reiterated its commitment to holding horse races in Greece, provided it lands the license for horse race betting in the country.

The benchmark for Greek stocks completed its fourth consecutive week of losses on Friday, giving up 3.38 percent from the previous Friday. However, things could have been worse as it narrowly avoided posting a new year-low by bouncing back from below 1,040 points.

Greece's privatization agency has received two binding bids for the country's horse race betting licence after scrapping a previous tender last month due to a lack of sufficient interest.

The HDRAF agency said on Friday Greek betting firm OPAP and gaming systems supplier Intralot had submitted bids for a 20-year licence to take wagers on horse races.
