The European Commission decided on Wednesday to refer Greece to the EU's Court of Justice for not applying correctly the rules under the Late Payment Directive.

The Late Payment Directive obliges public authorities to pay their invoices within 30 days (or 60 days for public health authorities). 

The European Prosecutor's Office in Sofia has taken legal action against an individual suspected of fraudulent activities involving European subsidies, as announced by the Luxembourg-based institution.

Taxpayers now have the ability to pay taxes, make appointments with the tax office, save all the necessary tax documents, and be updated on payment deadlines from their smartphones.

Residents of Western Bulgaria serviced by the electricity distribution company "Electrohold" now have a hassle-free way to settle their electricity bills online. The company has announced the launch of a virtual point-of-sale (POS) terminal on its website, allowing customers to make payments without the need for registration.

The government and the tax administration (AADE) are in talks with the European Commission about the implementation of electronic invoicing by businesses.

Taxpayers and businesses will be able to issue invoices and consignment notes through their cellphones, while at the same time they will be able to make tax payments.

Essentially, the company's accounting will be in an app designed by the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE), which will be activated within the year.

The decision was made based on the Decision adopted at the session of the Belgrade City Assembly on April 13 this year.

The tax administration (AADE) and the officials preparing to take the reins at the Finance Ministry intend to combat tax evasion by taking additional legislative and administrative measures.

Kosovo Customs also determined that the company had increased the cost of recent imports of passports and identity cards.

Despite these issues, the company still has an ongoing contract with the Kosovo ministry, which claims it did not have any information on these alleged irregularities. 

Cyprus is currently facing a serious issue with its 5% value-added tax rate for first-time homeowners, as the European Commission has issued a final warning to Nicosia to pass a bill that regulates the issue, which has been ongoing since 2020.
