Man remanded for murder of aunt
A 38-year-old man who confessed to the murder of his 62-year-old aunt in the northwestern region of Ioannina has been remanded in custody.
Citing his defense attorney, state broadcaster ERT said that the defendant outlined the reasons that led him to shoot his aunt with a hunting rifle inside her house, which is located in the village of Perivleptos.

Truck fire halts traffic on Egnatia Odos
A truck caught fire on Egnatia Odos between Igoumenitsa and Ioannina in northwestern Greece, leading to a road closure.
According to state broadcaster ERT, the driver and passenger escaped safely before the vehicle was engulfed in flames. The tractor unit was completely destroyed, though the truck was not carrying a trailer.

A major operation to rescue a 70-year-old British man took place on Friday afternoon in the Vikos Gorge in Ioannina.
Forces from the local fire department, the Special Disaster Response Unit and the Special Mountain Rescue Unit where dispatched to the scene and managed to rescue the 70-year-old man, who is reported to have suffered a heart attack.
