Bullying victim had sent letter to Greek parliament over miserable conditions in school

Vangelis Giakoumakis, the soft-spoken young man who was pushed by bullies to take his own life about a month ago, had sent a letter to the Greek parliament, along with several of his college mates, complaining about the miserable conditions at the Dairy School of Ioannina he was attending.

Bullying perpetrators to face 6 months behind bars

Perpetrators of bullying could face a minimum six-month prison term if found guilty if a special provision drafted by Greek Justice Minister Nikos Paraskevopoulos becomes law.

The provision, which the ministry says was expected to fill a legal vacuum, is being drafted as part of legislation regarding the abolition of C-type maximum security prisons.

Student's death in Ioannina ruled a suicide

A coroner ruled on Monday that the cause of death of missing student Vangelis Giakoumakis was suicide. The coronary report pointed to a single wound on the student?s right wrist carried out with a knife.

Authorities believe that the 20-year-old, who was enrolled at the Dairy School in Ioannina, northern Greece, committed suicide on February 6 the day he was reported missing.

The decomposed body of a young man was discovered early on Sunday by a couple walking in the area of Katsika near Pamvotida Lake in Ioannina, northwestern Greece. The body was believed to be that of missing student Vangelis Giakoumakis, reported missing on February 6.

Search by divers in Pamvotida Lake finds no sign of missing student

A search operation conducted on Saturday by divers in Pamvotida Lake in Ioannina, northwestern Greece, failed to produce any evidence with regard to the disappearance of student Vangelis Giakoumakis (photo).

The 20-year-old, who was enrolled at the city?s Dairy School, was last seen walking into Ioannina city center on February 6.
