President Klaus Iohannis on Friday has sent a message on the occasion of the commemoration of 100 years since the Armenians' historical tragedy, in which he says that the recognition of this tragedy is an important and necessary signal to get rid of hatred, intolerance, racism and xenophobia.

Romania could send upon request experts to Frontex, the European Union agency that manages the cooperation between national border guards, President Klaus Iohannis declared on Thursday evening, after the extraordinary meeting of the European Council; he said solidarity was needed with the states around the Mediterranean Sea facing immigration problems.

Credible measures are needed in support to the economic development of the countries of origin as solution to prevent long-term migration, president Klaus Iohannis said on Thursday, before taking off to the EU extraordinary summit in Brussels summoned in the context of the aggravation of the crisis represented by the North Africa immigrants flow.

President Klaus Iohannis signed on Thursday the decree releasing Tatiana Niculescu Bran from the office of presidential spokesperson and communication advisor, the Presidential Administration informed.

Tatiana Niculescu Bran had announced on Tuesday that she was quitting as spokesperson for the head of the state.

The National Theater of Bucharest (TNB) is a jewel of Romania, President Klaus Iohannis said on Thursday, after visiting the refurbished premises of the institution, adding that once reopened, it will become a palace of culture in the true sense of the word.

President Klaus Iohannis announced new consultations with the parliamentary parties from Monday on; he said he wanted to make sure the next Parliament fully cooperates with the Judiciary, and the Romanians right to vote abroad is guaranteed.

President Klaus Iohannis says he asked his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan to wait for the conclusions of a new feasibility study for the High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Interconnection Link between Romania and Turkey; the two heads of state discussed this matter privately in Bucharest on Wednesday.

President Klaus Iohannis believes there are chances, but not certainties on Romania's being accepted in the Schengen area this year, but underscores that "the latest developments in Parliament, in which certain requests have been rejected, don't (...) help at all."
