Türkiye and Iraq signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Thursday focused on cooperation in security, military, and counterterrorism efforts, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced.

Senior government and military officials from Türkiye and Iraq had detailed talks to further improve security cooperation and eliminate the terrorist threat from the latter's territories.

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein chaired the meetings with the attendance of defense ministers and intelligence chiefs from both sides.

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan arrived in Pakistan on May 19 for a two-day visit upon the invitation of his Pakistani counterpart, Mohammad Ishaq Dar.

The visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations and address regional and international developments, noted the statement from the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has emphasized the advancements in the collaborative effort against terrorism with Iraq, underscoring the imperative for Türkiye's neighbor to enhance its infrastructure to further bolster the efforts.
