The Turkish Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the burning of a Quran in Denmark and urged the Danish authorities to take action to stop these attacks against the Muslims' holy book.

"We condemn in the strongest terms the repeated vile attacks against our holy book, the Quran, in Copenhagen," read the statement issued late on July 24.

The ritual is always the same. Mario Prushi carefully washes his hands and face before kissing and pressing one of the world's smallest Qurans to his forehead.

For generations, the postage stamp-sized book has been passed down in his family, surviving wars and one of the world's most fanatical "godless regimes."

The Turkish Diyanet Foundation (TDV) has donated a total of 20,000 copies of a Spanish-language version of the Quran for distribution in Latin American countries, a written statement by the foundation said on Feb. 7. 

Turkey's top cleric has said his Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) will print copies of the Quran "24/7" to send to Muslims in other countries.

Diyanet President Mehmet Görmez said they would print copies of the Quran at a press in Ankara's Sincan district.
