Greece on Monday marked the first anniversary of Hamas' October 7, 2023 attack expressing solidarity with Israel and urging for the immediate release of hostages. In a statement, the Foreign Ministry also called for an immediate ceasefire to alleviate civilian suffering and promote peace in the region.

Israel rejected a push by allies for a 21-day ceasefire in Lebanon and vowed to keep fighting Hezbollah militants "until victory", ahead of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's expected address to the U.N. General Assembly on Friday.

Greece's main opposition party, SYRIZA, condemned the barrage of explosions in Lebanon on Thursday, saying that these resulted in the deaths of several civilians and "is certain to lead to a further dangerous escalation in the region, with uncontrollable repercussions at the expense of international peace."

Türkiye's National Intelligence Organization (MİT) chief, Ibrahim Kalın, recently held talks with leaders of Hamas' political bureau in Ankara, focusing on the latest developments in the negotiations for a ceasefire between Israel and Palestine.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has indicated that a temporary ceasefire with Hamas could be achievable, though he emphasized that concluding the ongoing conflict remains a separate challenge.

The war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza entered its 12th month Saturday with little sign of respite for the Palestinian territory or hope for Israeli hostages still held there.

The United States said Tuesday it was time to "finalise" a deal between Israel and Hamas to end the Gaza war, after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's refusal to bow to pressure.

Hamas has rejected the new conditions proposed by Israel for a ceasefire agreement, insisting on adherence to the terms established on July 2, CNN reported. The Hamas delegation departed Cairo on Sunday evening after talks with mediators, casting further doubt on the prospects of a breakthrough in the US-supported efforts to end the 10-month-long conflict.
