Slovenian community secures one seat in Friuli Venezia Giulia council
Marko Pisani has been elected to the Friuli Venezia Giulia Regional Council as the only member of the Slovenian ethnic minority to make it to the legislative assembly of this Italian region. The other Slovenian councillor, Danilo Slokar, failed to get re-elected in the regional elections on 2 and 3 April.
Fifth biannual festival of Slovenians in Italy kicks off
Trieste – Slofest, a festival of Slovenian culture in Italy, kicked off in Trieste on Friday to bring three days of programme presenting all activities of the Slovenian community in Italy: culture, art, sports and creativity. Schools are particularly invited.
Acclaimed Slovenian writer Boris Pahor celebrates 108th birthday
Ljubljana – Boris Pahor, the internationally famous Slovenian writer from Trieste, celebrates his 108th birthday on Thursday. Throughout his life, Pahor has warned against totalitarian regimes, also in his novel Necropolis, where he describes his experiences in Nazi concentration camps. He has also received numerous honours and awards.
Diaspora writer Rebula honoured with bust
A bust of Alojz Rebula (1924-2018), an award-wining diaspora writer and translator, has been unveiled in front of the Church of St Helen in Loka pri Zidanem Mostu, the birth place of his wife, where he spent the last years of his life.
