Lost city of Nicomedia lies underground
The old city of Nicomedia, which was a part of the Roman Empire, today lies under the northwestern province of Kocaeli as the city industrially developed.
Nicomedia (İzmit), one of the first metropolitan cities of the Roman Empire, where it was the capital for many years, has been discussed at a conference.

At least 10 Injured after Explosion near Grain Silos at a Turkish Port (VIDEO)
At least 10 people were injured on Monday after an explosion rocked grain silos near the Marmara Sea port of Derince in western Turkey, Turkish state broadcaster TRT and other local media reported, citing Reuters.
It is unclear why an explosion occurred around 2:40 p.m. local time near the Turkish Grain Board silos, with police investigating, TRT said.
Record fine imposed on ships polluting sea
A record fine of nearly 34 million Turkish Liras ($887,000) has been imposed on two ships found to have polluted the İzmit Bay in the northwestern province of Kocaeli, the governor's office has announced.

Marmara region warming up as new heat wave arrives
A new heat wave has gripped Türkiye and will affect the Marmara region the most, where the temperatures are likely to rise by 6 to 10 degrees Celsius, warns meteorologists.
According to the Directorate General of Meteorology's report, the temperatures in Marmara Region will increase by 6 to 10 degrees, which is above the seasonal normal.

The victims of the 1999 Marmara earthquake, the worst seismic disaster in the history of modern Türkiye, were remembered in the country's northwestern provinces on Aug. 17.
Precipitation to hit northern provinces through week
A new precipitation wave will impact the northern provinces along the Black Sea shores through the week, said the meteorologists, warning many provinces of thunder-boomers and floodings.
According to the State Meteorological Service, there will be rainfalls in the Marmara region, some Aegean provinces, the provinces near the Georgian border.
