The Israeli army has announced that it has destroyed the command structure of the radical movement Hamas in the northern part of the Gaza Strip. Army spokesman Daniel Hagari said Palestinian militants now operate in the area only sporadically and "without commanders."

More strikes on Gaza after Israel warns war will last through 2024

Shelling and missile strikes rocked the length of the Gaza Strip overnight into Tuesday, after Israel's army warned its war against the territory's Hamas rulers will last through 2024.

Nearly three months of conflict have claimed almost 22,000 lives in Gaza, according to the Hamas-run health ministry, and devastated much of the besieged territory.

Restored Byzantine church re-opens in Gaza

The remains of a fifth century Byzantine church were unveiled in Gaza on Jan. 24 following a three-year restoration project, with the strip's Hamas Islamist rulers touting an embrace of their "Christian brothers."

The remains of a church and monastery were first discovered in Jabalia, a city in northern Gaza, in 1997 over an area spanning roughly 800 square meters.

The Israeli missile tore through the vaulted ceiling and pulverised age-old sandstone. One direct hit destroyed the Omari mosque in Jabaliya and dealt another blow to Gaza's beleaguered heritage.
      
The site is believed to have housed a mosque since the seventh century and parts of the Omari were said to date back to the 14th century.
