Benjamin Šeško, who plays for the Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg and is considered one of the European strikers to watch out for, has won Slovenia’s player of the year award. The 19-year-old also took home the award for best young player.

Split – Slovenia lost against Croatia 0:3 in Split on Tuesday in the sixth round of the group stage of the World Cup qualifiers, with almost no chances left for qualification now. Coach Matjaž Kek and captain Jan Oblak acknowledged Croatia’s superiority after the match.

The four-year extension puts an end to lengthy negotiations between the Slovenian and the club for which he has played since July 2014.

The 26-year-old from Škofja Loka is to receive around 10 million euro a year under the new contract, which makes him one of the highest paid goalkeepers in the world.
