NIJZ head’s powers curtailed under government decision
Ljubljana – Against the backdrop of speculations that the head of the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ), Milan Krek, will soon be dismissed or will step down, the government changed the rules governing the institution so that Krek will no longer perform the duties of NIJZ medical director.

Financial Administration boss steps down
Ljubljana – Ivan Simič, the director general of the Tax Administration, stepped down on Wednesday, announcing his decision just minutes after the new government was sworn in. Simič, a staunch supporter of the Janez Janša government, was named to the post in acting capacity in May 2021 before getting a full five-year term in November the same year.

Foreign minister starting three-day visit to India
Ljubljana/New Delhi – Foreign Minister Anže Logar will start a three-day visit to India on Monday to meet with his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and take part in the Raisina Dialogue. He is also expected to hold talks with Indian President Narendra Modi, the Foreign Ministry said.

Ljubljana – Slovenia’s potential new prime minister, Robert Golob has made a successful career for himself as an energy executive before returning to politics as a new name just in time for the general election in a manner the country has become well used to since his one-time party boss, Zoran Janković, first made such an attempt.

Ljubljana – Slovenian voters will head to the polls on Sunday in an election that analysts say will determine whether Slovenia continues on the conservative path paved by the Janez Janša government over the last two years, or takes a more leftist turn under newcomer Robert Golob and parties that are currently in opposition. Janša visits Ukrainian charity centre in Ljubljana for Easter
Ljubljana – Prime Minister Janez Janša visited the Ukrainian charity centre in Ljubljana’s BTC retail park on Saturday, giving Ukrainian children Easter eggs and creating decorations with them for traditional Ukrainian bread, the government said.
