Indonesia Calls for International Help to Deal with Quake-tsunami Aftermath

AFP - Indonesian volunteers began burying bodies in a mass grave with space for more than a thousand people on Monday, victims of a quake and tsunami that devastated swathes of Sulawesi and left authorities struggling to deal with the sheer scale of the disaster.

Indonesia Celebrates 72 Years of Independence

Indonesia celebrated its 72nd Independence Day on Thursday with a flag hoisting ceremony and a cultural parade in capital Jakarta, Anadolu Agency reported. 

President Joko Widodo in traditional clothes led the flag-raising ceremony at the presidential palace.

It was attended by a large number of state officials, clerics, tribesmen and diplomats.

President visits Indonesia, praises "excellent" ties

Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic on Tuesday started his three-day visit Indonesia, at the invitation of his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo.

Nikolic's official Facebook page on Tuesday featured a photograph from the airport in Jakarta, that showed a welcoming billboard with images of the Serbian president and his wife and those of Widodo and his wife.

Diverging paths: Turkey and Indonesia

Indonesia court orders Suharto foundation to return $325 mn

An Indonesian court has ordered a foundation set up by former Indonesian dictator Suharto to pay back about $325 million of embezzled state funds, an official said on August 11. 

The Supreme Court ruled that the huge sum, which came from an educational foundation controlled by the Suharto family, must be returned, said court spokesman Suhadi.
