First plane from Wuhan comes to Istanbul in 2.5 years

The first passenger plane from the Chinese province of Wuhan, the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic that killed more than 6 million worldwide, has landed in Istanbul after a two-and-a-half-year halt due to COVID-19.

China Southern Airlines' airliner with flight number CZ8021 arrived in Istanbul Airport at 9.30 p.m. on June 29.

China Opposed WHO Plan to Establish Origin of Covid-19

In July, the WHO offered to carry out a second phase of research in China, including a laboratory and market test in Wuhan.

"We will not accept such an origin research plan, because in some respects it does not take into account common sense and is contrary to science," Zen Jensin, deputy minister of the National Health Commission, told reporters.

Wuhan doctor at whistleblower’s hospital dies from coronavirus

A Wuhan doctor who worked with coronavirus whistleblower Li Wenliang died of the virus last week, state media reported on June 2, becoming China's first COVID-19 fatality in weeks.

Hu Weifeng, a urologist at Wuhan Central Hospital, died on May 29 after being treated for COVID-19 and allied issues for more than four months, state broadcaster CCTV said.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in mainland China reached 82,901 as of May 9, while the total death toll from the virus stood at 4,633,

China has reported 14 new Covid-19 cases, including one from Wuhan in more than a month, where the outbreak was detected late last year. This took taking the number of infections in the country to 82,901, health officials said on Sunday.

"We object an international investigation"

Chinese top diplomat in the UK Chen Wen told BBC that such requests were "politically motivated" and that fulfilling them would divert "not only the attention but also the resources" of China from fighting the pandemic.
"It's a politically motivated initiative. I don't think anyone can agree to that. It would do no good to anyone," Chen said.

China developed its own model in the fight against COVID-19 after its appearance in the city of Wuhan in December. Some western countries like the U.S. have been criticized for being too harsh, but China has succeeded in reducing the number of cases with this model.
