BIRN Launches New Investigative Resource Desk Platform
The Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) launched a cross-border journalism platform on Thursday with the aim of helping journalists all over the globe by providing them with knowledge and assistance necessary in today's world.
EU "to increase support to independent media in Western Balkans"
The EC will invest in new initiatives to support independent journalism, sustainable media companies and incentivize cooperation among public broadcasters.
This was announced at a EU-Western Balkan Media Days conference in Tirana according to a Nov. 10 European Commission press release, Beta repoerted.
Eighth BIRN Summer School Opens in Croatia
Some 35 reporters from the Balkans and across the world gathered on Monday in the historic resort city of Dubrovnik in Croatia for the eighth BIRN Summer School Master Class on Investigative Journalism.

Serbia's CINS Journalists Win European Press Prize
An investigative media outlet from Serbia, the Serbian Centre for Investigative Journalism, CINS, won the European Press Prize 2017 on Thursday in Amsterdam.
"It feels great to win this award. It is an encouragement to keep working and a confirmation of our efforts so far," Dino Jahic, CINS editor-in-chief, said on receiving the award.

BIRN Albania Journalist Wins Outstanding Merits Award
Lindita Cela has been named winner of CEI SEEMO's prestigious Award for Outstanding Merits in Investigative Journalism in 2016 for her uncompromising investigations into corruption scandals and organized crime, including the problem of human trafficking in Europe.

BIRN Albania Journalist Wins CEI SEEMO Prize
The Central European Initiative, CEI, and the South East Europe Media Organisation, SEEMO, on Thursday awarded Aleksandra Bogdani for her professional achievements as an intrepid reporter covering complex stories of human trafficking, organised crime and child abuse, corruption and national security.
She received the CEI/SEEMO Award for Outstanding Merits.

This is an explosive question in Turkey, as not only the government but a large section of the Turkish media as well make such a description of journalists that only monkeys could perhaps appreciate it. It is as if being a journalist necessitates licking boots, particularly those of the president and the prime minister.
