Montenegrin Journalist to Be Retried Again for Drug Trafficking

"The decision has been made and at the beginning of next week, [the case] will be returned to the lower court," the Supreme Court told daily newspaper Vijesti.

Investigative Journalist Sentenced in Montenegro Expects ‘Fair’ Retrial

A new trial in Montenegro against the investigative journalist Jovo Martinovic for drug trafficking started on Thursday before the Higher Court in Podgorica.

The court jailed him for 18 months in January 2019 but the Appeal Court overturned the verdict in October as a result of which a retrial was ordered. 

Montenegro Releases Crime Reporter Martinovic

After almost year and a half in detention on drug smuggling charges, Montenegro has freed crime reporter Jovo Martinovic, his family confirmed to BIRN on Thursday.

Martinovic was released on Wednesday to face his ongoing trial before a court in Podgorica on drug-related charges that he has several times denied.
