CHP mayors’ aid prevented unlawfully, says party leader

Mayors from the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) are making history with their extensive efforts to provide assistance to the people suffering from measures imposed in the fight against the novel coronavirus, the party chair has said, vowing that their campaign will continue despite the government's recent obstruction. 

Turkey marks May Day amid pandemic

The International Workers' Day, also known as May Day, was marked by labor unions, NGOs and political parties across Turkey.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak and the weekend curfew Ankara implemented, rallies were not held on May 1. Nevertheless, May Day was celebrated with "social distancing" in various cities on April 30.

Turkey to impose three-day lockdown in 31 provinces

Turkey will impose a three-day lockdown between May 1 and May 3 on 31 provinces as part of efforts to stem the spread of the coronavirus, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said.

Speaking after a cabinet meeting on April 27, Erdoğan said that the three-day lockdown in 31 cities will start on May 1 holiday.

Need for social state to grow in post-pandemic world: Main opposition CHP

The novel coronavirus outbreak has shown once again the importance of a strong social state, the leader of the main opposition party has said, urging that the focus of the economy should shift from attaining maximum profit to providing a humane life standard for everybody.
