Students make their way to school against the stunning backdrop of the Pindus mountains in Chrysomilia, 39 kilometers from the town of Kalambaka, in Thessaly. Boasting a population of just over 500, this relatively isolated village runs against Greece's bleak demographic trends. Despite its remote, mountainous location, around 50 families reside here, each with an average of three children.

Infrastructure Min hails progress on E65 highway construction
Progress in construction work for the Central Greece Motorway (E65), connecting Macedonia with southern Greece through western Thessaly and Fthiotida in Central Greece, is "excellent," Infrastructure and Transport Minister Christos Staikouras said on Monday, during an on-site inspection.
Season's first snow falls on mountains of Kalambaka
The winter's first snow fell on the mountains of Kalambaka in the central Greek region of Trikala on Friday.
The overnight snowfall was light and continued into Friday morning, according to Dimitris Vourlitsis, deputy mayor of Meteora, the municipality that is home to Greece's historic monastic community.

New rainstorms leave five dead in Greece
Five people have lost their lives due to the heavy rainfall in the past few days. A 30-year-old man from Ksilokastro was the last “victim” of the extreme weather conditions. He tried to drive through a stream in his car, a few meters away from his house, but he was swept away by the fierce water.

Bad weather continues with snowfalls in Greece
The severe weather continues with low temperatures, snowfalls and heavy rainfalls accompanied by strong winds causing the death of a man and many damages.
Yesterday, a man was found dead in his car where he was trapped and swept away by the floods, while the main bridge on Pinios River at Kalabaka, central Greece, ruptured.

Man killed in Trikala trying to cross train track
A 40-year-old man suffered fatal injuries on Monday night after being hit by a train bound for Kalambaka train at an unguarded crossing in Trikala in central Greece.
The man, identified as an Albanian national, died of multiple injuries at the Trikala general hospital shortly after being rushed to the emergency unit, its director, Giorgos Souflias, told Athens-Macedonia News Agency.
