Inquiry launched into cause of pilot’s death
The site in Kalamata, southern Greece, where a pilot crashed and died on Wednesday. The Defense Ministry declared three days of mourning for the Armed Forces. The 40-year-old Epameinondas Kosteas was killed when his Hellenic Air Force T-2 Buckeye training jet crashed near the Kalamata airbase in the Peloponnese. He was the only person aboard the aircraft.

Frontex chief: Greek authorities ‘did their upmost to save lives’
The head of the EU border agency Frontex has said the Greek authorities "did their upmost to save lives" in Wednesday's sinking of a ship crammed with migrants that went down off the coast of Pylos, in the Peloponnese.
Speaking from the nearby city of Kalamata, Frontex Executive Director Hans Leijtens said the sinking was "a horrible incident, any way you look at it."
Over 80 rescued after migrant boat capsizes near Pylos
More than 80 individuals were rescued in the early hours of Wednesday in the sea area located 47 nautical miles southwest of Pylos in the southwestern region of Peloponnese. The incident took place within international waters when a fishing vessel, carrying an unknown number of undocumented migrants, capsized.
Aegean expands its connections with Israel
Aegean Airlines is expanding its network of destinations and further strengthening its activity in the Israeli market by adding three new direct scheduled routes from Ioannina, Hania and Kalamata to Ben Gurion Airport and Tel Aviv, while increasing its flights from Athens and Thessaloniki.

Kalamata Airport police net dozens with forged papers
Dozens of foreign nationals trying to travel with forged documents have been arrested by police conducting passport checks at Kalamata Airport in southern Greece.
More specifically, police said that between July 5 and Tuesday, 55 foreign nationals were arrested as they tried to board flights, mainly to cities in Central and Northern Europe.

Transport authorities have announced that charges will be waived for motorists at key tollgates to allow voters to reach their constituencies for the snap general election on Sunday while shipping firms, intercity rail services and airlines will be offering discounts.

More trains scheduled for elections, toll charges waived for voters
The Hellenic Railways Organization's operating arm Trainose is to boost services on the Athens-Thessaloniki route between Thursday and Tuesday, May 28, in a bid to help those traveling to their constituencies to vote in Sunday's local authority and European Parliament elections.
BA boosts flights to three Greek airports
British Airways is increasing its flights from London Heathrow to the Greek airports of Hania, Kalamata and Preveza from two to three per week this summer.
The more frequent services will begin on April 28 for Kalamata, May 22 for Hania and May 25 for Preveza, while they will remain in effect until late September or early October.

Airports see passenger traffic soar
