Launched in 2009, the Kalamata Street Festival endeavors to encourage artistic creativity and promote the urban spaces of the capital of the Messinia regional unit. In its 11th edition, the 2019 Kalamata Street Festival will provide spaces for artists to express themselves freely through painting, theater, music, dance and other art forms.

Man arrested for five arsons in the Peloponnese
A 41-year-old man was arrested by investigating officers of the Kalamata fire service on Wednesday in connection with five blazes which broke out in forests and farmland over the past five years in the Peloponnese.

Hanging by a thread
For six months a broken lamp post at the main intersection of our Peloponnese village has been lassoed by three lengths of rope tied together and hitched to a bollard. This could be a scene from the Wild West, but it is in fact in a village under the administration of the Kalamata council.

Police in the Peloponnesian town of Kalamata have arrested seven suspects, including one municipal official, in connection with the fatal injury of a 53-year-old camera operator during a flare throwing contest on Sunday.
BA boosts flights to three Greek airports
British Airways is increasing its flights from London Heathrow to the Greek airports of Hania, Kalamata and Preveza from two to three per week this summer.
The more frequent services will begin on April 28 for Kalamata, May 22 for Hania and May 25 for Preveza, while they will remain in effect until late September or early October.

Pupil saves school bus in the Peloponnese
The 52-year-old driver of a school bus who fainted on the return route from a secondary school in Koroni, Messinia, in the Peloponnese, earlier this week, was hospitalized for tests following the incident, which did not result in injuries after a pupil intervened, local reports said Friday.
