Student parade held in Athens to commemorate War of Independence
The traditional student parade to mark the anniversary of the outbreak of the Greek Revolution in 1821 has been held in Athens.
Crowds of spectators lined the streets to watch the parade, which passed the reviewing platform in front of Parliament on Syntagma Square.
Officials attending included Education Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis and Athens Mayor Charis Doukas.
Rescue operation underway for stranded ‘Odontotos’ passengers
An operation was launched on Monday to rescue approximately 90 passengers who were stranded on a train along the Diakopto-Kalavryta rack railway (known in Greek as the "Odontotos"), situated in the Peloponnese region. The train had come to a halt due to landslides near the Niamata area.
Winter short-term rental shift
The performance of short-term rental accommodation located in Greece's most popular winter destinations, such as Arachova and Kalavryta, is lower than last winter. Apparently, the wave of inflation over the last year and the mild weather have worked against attracting more visitors - these are destinations aimed almost exclusively at Greek visitors, which actually limits their appeal.

Iconic rack railway in Kalavryta resumes services after fires
The service of "Odontotos", the iconic rack railway train of Kalavryta in the northern Peloponnese, will return to service again on Saturday, after a pause during regional fires, operator Hellenic Train said on Friday.

Bishop fined for blessing the waters seaside
Ieronymos, Metropolitan Bishop of Egio and Kalavryta, in the Peloponnese, proceeded to bless the waters at the town of Egio, defying the instructions of the official Church.
He was accompanied by his predecessor, Amvrosios, a well-known extremist, who resigned in 2019, and two individuals who dove to retrieve a cross the bishop threw at sea.

As temperatures plummet, snow covers mountainous regions in Greece
The regional authorities of Achaia, western Greece, were urging drivers on Thursday to use snow chains if travelling near the area of Kalavryta, as a cold front brought freezing temperatures around the country.
State-run news agency ANA-MPA reported that snow chains were required when travelling from Kalavryta to Diakopto, Patras and Halandritsa.
Bishop Amvrosios of Kalavryta resigns
The Metropolitan Amvrosios of Kalavryta, a fiery conservative Greek Orthodox bishop known for criticizing, often in intemperate terms, those who he believed acted in a "non-Christian" or "non-Greek" way, including gays, migrants and politicians, resigned Sunday.
