Composer Giorgos Kouroupos turns Stefan Zweig's 1929 short story "Leporella" into an opus for the Greek National Opera's alternative stage at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in southern Athens. The opera is in Greek and will be accompanied by English surtitles.

Greek electronic music pioneer Konstantinos Bhta will recite poems by the late poet Yannis Ritsos on the alternative stage of the Greek National Opera, as he shares his musical compositions with the public. Bhta performs a musical interpretation of Ritsos' poems and establishes a dialogue between the sounds and the words read, pushing the barriers of communication to another level.

Police seeking robbers behind fifth smash-and-grab in Peristeri
Authorities in Athens are seeking the perpetrators behind a robbery in which a car were used to smash through the front windows of an electronics shop before the premises were looted.
The unidentified robbers drove a car through a store in the district of Peristeri, west of central Athens, at around 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, before grabbing valuable items.

The Greek National Opera inaugurates its 2019-20 season with Vincenzo Bellini's "La Sonnambula," in a grand co-production with the Vienna State Opera and the Royal Opera House. Directed by Marco Arturo Marelli, who sets the action in a sanatorium, the production is conducted by Philippe Auguin, with Agathangelos Georgakatos leading the chorus, and costumes designed by Dagmar Niefind.

Don Letts | Athens | October 20
Legendary DJ, musician and filmmaker Don Letts - hailed for almost single-handedly turning a generation of punk fans to reggae in the 1970s - is coming to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center's Lighthouse venue on Sunday, October 20. Ahead of his 9 p.m. set, there will be an open discussion between Letts and the audience, starting at 7.30 p.m. Admission is free of charge.
